PostSubject: Quitting Cigarettes   Tue May 26, 2009 2:50 am

I'm getting ready to quit smoking cigarettes, I did it once before for about a year, and I don't even remember how I started again. The whole reason I bought Wii and PS3 to begin with was to help me quit smoking, I hadn't played any video games in quite a while, I left off with Dreamcast and Gamecube, no PS2 no Xbox. (I bought a Wii, waited for something, anything, then bought a PS3 lol)

At some point this week I'm getting an oz. of good pot and I will commence with doing nothing but blazing and playing a lot to combat nicotine cravings. Games help with the mental addiction and engage your hands and pot fills your lungs with smoke and also engages your hands and takes care of the oral fixation thing, so it's a good non-toxic placebo IMO. I'm used to playing while chain smoking with a cigarette in my hand, eek hope this doesn't backfire somehow! lol

So ... anyone have any other advice? Anyone here successfully quit? I have to quit cuz I'm only 26 and I'm already coughing up black shit .... plus in NYC they're practically 10 bucks a pack, which is just nuts.

I would have to go against the pot thing, thats probably not a good solution considering it is illegal but I can say it has been awhile since I have smoked pot but I am glad I have given up both. I havent had a cigarette in about a year and a half, the one thing i can say about that is once you have gone a week or so without one it shouldnt even bother you anymore. The next thing I would say is smoking is partly addiction and mostly habit if you can get out of the habit of smoking then it shouldnt be a problem and as for the oral fixation of smoking you could always go to gum or candy, I love candy esecially jolly ranchers and life savers I think those have helped me out the most. I cant tell you what to do but I would definitely not suggest going to pot for the answer

I only smoke cigs when Im Drinking, playing BFBC or when Im pissed off about something. Only smoke pot when friends bring it over on occassion. Need to get my ass back in the gym more since that was what helped me quit smoking the first time.

**I'D RATHER NOT HAVE THIS IN THE PUBLIC FORUMS, VISITORS DON'T NEED TO READ SOME OF THIS STUFF. CAN SOMEONE PUT IT IN THE CLAN SECTION FOR ME?**

Carolina, you a copper or something? lol I smoke a lot of pot regularly anyway, just planning on smoking A LOT for the next week or two, however long it takes. Planning on chain smoking joints for at least a couple of days. Burying myself in a haze and getting nothing done at all for a couple weeks seems like a good investment to me if I can come out of it cigarette-less.

KilLA and Eternal, that's what I meant by 'backfire' I'm used to chain smoking while I play as well. If I fuck up in a tank, it's mostly cuz I've got a cigarette in my hand that I'm trying to hold while using type 1 controls. And stupid me makes it worse half the time by using x and square instead of L1 and L2!! lol

Heading to a gym is probably a good idea, thanks. I'm a little scared about starting this, I dunno if I can do it now, but I need to, I have bad stomach problems and cigarettes make things much worse. Coughing up black shit at my age is even scarier though. I've been smoking more than a pack a day since I was about 17. My PSN should be bloodyashtray_ChAos hahahahaha. I dunno why the fuck I just wrote that. lol I've never coughed up blood, just some black shit when I smoke too many. (lol 'just' some black shit ... wait no that's not funny is it? Sad )

Moved to members lounge for ya... Wow driving a tank with x and square? Can that still be done? lol I know what ya mean though, I cant tell you how many times that I have died while putting a cig out Evil or Very Mad. Ive been smoking since I was 12 or 13 so roughly 15 years, but I have never coughed up anything although I have heard of some people doing that. The jewbag is trying to quit right now, hes down to smoking like 5 a day, he uses the patches and has said that they help.

I think the main thing that I was trying to focus on is, it is just a habit and you basically need to get out of it, thats how it was for me anyway after i got away from the habit it was easy. I remember the day I quit I was at work I just got done smoking a cigarette I had about 3/4ths of a pack left and just decided that I was going to quit and gave it to a friend of mine, it was just after my daughter was born to and told my wife after she was born that I would quit, she is a year and a half now so thats how long I have been smoke free

Here's my list of tips so far:

- if you can get past the first 1-2 minutes of physical cravings you're doing well
- if you avoid that first cigarette you're doing well
- exercise
- food and candy
-
my own ideas are games and pot

And Carolina, I'm seriously physically addicted. That's going to be more of a struggle than breaking the habit/routine. I smoke two cigarettes before I even get out of bed in the morning. Was just joking about using x and square, KilLA, I did that to myself a lot as a noob, though. Actually I can do it pretty well, you have to take a weird grip on the controller to do it though. Gotta get jewbag on this thread if he's in the middle of quitting.
