| It came to my attention today that not everyone may know this but you are not, I repeat you are not supposed to restart your PS3 by turning off the main power button on the rear of the system. You are only supposed to turn that button off when the power indicator (light next to power button above eject button, it will be red or green) is red. I will give you a quote straight from the manual as this will explain why so many people's PS3's are fried, especially you kiila you know now this is why your PS3 doesn't work.
"Check that the system is in standby mode (power indicator red) before turning it off using the main power switch on the system rear. If you turn off the system using the main power switch while the power indicator is green, it may cause the system to malfunction."
I believe this is exactly why so many of you are experiencing problems and have to buy a new system or send it for repairs.
There is another way to restart your system in more friendly and safe manner and this is by holding the power indication button down for a few seconds, you will hear the system beep a couple times, release the button and the system will restart, so as you see while the Battlefield freezing problem has something to do with this, it is not the fault of battlefield that your PS3 stopped working.

| it doesnt really matter now what I did to shut off my system, still sent it in, so I guess this will be helpful in the future when I play a stupid ass game that freezes all the time because someone cant figure out how to fix the problem. Oh well I suppose | |

| goddammit, what the fuck kind of faulty bullshit is that on sony's behalf. wow.
They did this on the earlier ps2's and then when the slim was out they took out the switch in the back. But yeah, I'm a tard for not reading the manual and I did turn it off from the front towards the end of my ps3 frying too.

| I am going to try and maintain my ps3 a lil bit better this time, I have now stood it up instead of having it lie flat, and put it in a more open space than where it was, I dont think I can afford to buy another new one, so this one better last or it is bye bye playstation 3 for good | |

| Is it really better to leave it up instead of lying down? Seems more dangerous. <.< | |

Logis says it all, the internal of the PS3 warms, don't know what you've learned, but I've always been told warm air rises, with PS3 laying down = harder for air to leave from vent, PS3 standing up, air flows freely up out of PS3 thorugh vent.

Is it really better to stand ps3 vertical? With vent on top its easier for dust to get in system, guess it would be ok if it was inside an entertainment center.

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=63658 No youre not supposed to use them either, they trap additional heat in the system and only accelerate the process of overheating your ps3. Ive been told by sony not to use one and friends have told me they didnt do shit either.

If you overclock or add hardware etc you need to add better cooling. As I don't believe any of you are overclocking the PS3 but I think its possible when u throw an operating system on it like linux etc. As long as its not like 90F in your house in the summer your good. (As long as you don't have the PS3 trapped somewhere that its circulating its own exaust air. Im also an Heating/AC guy lol)

| I always turn it off at the front, and my PS3 has always been fine (touch wood). I have found the button on the front dosnt work if it freezes during loading. The thing to do on this case is eject the disc and it will go back to the main menu. | |
